π Tenants β What Should You Do to End your Tenancy?
Here, Steph offers her advice on what tenants should do if they are looking to leave their rented home. π
π
If You Want to End the Tenancy
Your tenancy agreement should state how much notice you must give the landlord if you want to leave your property. Typically, one monthβs notice is required, and you must provide it in writing β an email to an appropriate email address will suffice. π Make sure you keep a copy of your notice as a record of when it was sent. π
πΈ Rent
Ensure your rent payments are up to date. Do not withhold rent because you think it will be deducted from your deposit. π°
π‘ Bills
Donβt leave bills unpaid. Unpaid bills might impact your references and credit rating in the future. π
π§Ή Clear Up
Remove all your possessions, clean the house, dispose of rubbish, and take meter readings. Try to leave the property in the same condition as when you moved in. Check this against your copy of the inventory. π Dispose of any unwanted furniture via a local collection service. π
π Return the Keys
Return all sets of keys that were provided to you. If you donβt, the landlord may charge you for changing the locks. ποΈ
