Cobham Colts, under 9’s Football Final … They Won!

Cobham Colts, under 9’s Football Final … They Won!

Sunday 7th May 2023 saw Cobham Colts under 9s play Upchurch Colts at Woodstock Park, in the FINAL of their trophy event.

It was a dry overcast morning and nerves were running high as the team met at 9am to travel to the game together. They were travelling in style, in Millwall Football clubs team coach!

The drive to Sittingbourne was a mixture of excitement and nerves. On arrival the boys prepared in the changing rooms, getting ready to play for the first time on a pitch with a crowd of over 200 watching from the stands.

The players walked onto the pitch ready for match….

The first half saw Cobham take the lead through a fantastic solo goal by Finley Phillips, dribbling past 3 players and smashing the ball into the roof of the net. After several goal scoring chances from both teams, half time saw the score remaining 1-0 to Cobham.

The second half all the boys played their socks off, but unfortunately Cobham conceded a goal, with the full-time score being 1-1.

We then saw a goalless period of extra time which meant PENALTYS!

Both teams showed real bravery, stepping up to take their penalties. The final decider was made by the goalies, with Cobham goalie, Jackson Marshall smashing the ball into the back of the net to win the game for Cobham!

This amazing win was followed by a well-deserved celebration at the Cobham clubhouse! Well done boys!
